Who rules over you?

Have you noticed that almost all cartoon strips in our newspapers are by foreign cartoonists poking fun of people in far away lands?  That there are very few Indian cartoonists ever featured?

The strongest people are those that can laugh at themselves, their own eccentricities and mistakes. The weakest are those that get upset at everyone and everything and take offence at almost everything said or done.

Nothing is more dangerous for a society than when weak characters acquire powerful positions and gain access to great resources.

Unfortunately the social groups and institutions that should be the strongest often demonstrate the greatest intolerance of any form of criticism.  These include religious leaders and their hardcore followers. Politicians, government officials, law enforcement agencies, the judiciary etc.

Humour is the most intelligent way of offering criticism. Cartoonists, humorists, comedians, are the people that prevent us from taking ourselves too seriously.

A society that cannot be criticised is a totalitarian society and people who are above criticism become tyrants.
