Mission Smile

"I wish to remembered as a person who made others smile."
~ Khushwant Singh

Born into a family with great wealth and influence, Khushwant Singh had the opportunity to spend quality time with India's 'Who is Who'. He saw the real and private persons rather than the artificial face that people put on when they are in public.

He was a courageous writer, for he offended many rich, and powerful personalities by highlighting the strangest yet true image of people as he saw them.

He too cultivated a public image, as a frivolous man with no sense of responsibility with a very very large collections of jokes and personal anecdotes. Yet in real life he was a scholar, poet, writer, philosopher, and good human being.
In spite of the image  of being a lecher and dirty old man, he was considered by all the women in his life as a gentleman.

He has his many admirers and detractors. India honoured this great and popular writer Khushwant Singh  with many awards, most famously the **Padma Bhushan** in 1974. and the second-highest civilian award, the  Padma Vibhushan, in 2007.

In his own unique way, he made the world a better place and for that he always deserves to be appreciated and remembered.
